There are so many decisions to consider when starting a blog. For example, you have to choose a blog platform, design a color palette, and select a theme. It’s super easy to get overwhelmed during this process.

To make these decisions a bit easier, there are two things you should do:

  1. Determine your niche.
  2. Determine your ideal audience.
What is your niche?

The topics you enjoy writing about are your niche. For example, you blog about DIY home decor using secondhand items.

Who is your ideal audience?

Your ideal audience are those who would benefit from your blog. In the niche example above, your ideal audience would be DIYers who prefer to decorate their homes with secondhand items.

What plugins do I use?

How do I share blog posts?

How do I figure out what colors to use for my site?

Do I buy my domain?

I also share all of the resources I’ve used to create my personal blog The Recovering Pessimist & my creative writing website Snapshot Storyteller. The guide is available for purchase on Etsy.
